Virginia is the face of ABC TV News in Canberra. She is an award winning journalist and commentator whose extensive media career spans more than 20 years. Virginia’s outspoken views on the role of women have been widely debated in the Australian media. Her seminal article on feminism and childlessness was ranked by The Age as among the most significant opinion pieces published in its 150 year history. Her book Wonder Woman: The myth of 'having it all' was launched by Julia Gillard at the National Press Club in 2005. Virginia’s work has taken her around the world, reporting from the Middle East, Iraq, Afghanistan, Europe, Washington and New York, for 7 Network’s Witness, and Channel 9’s A Current Affair, in addition to the ABC's 7.30 Report. |
In 2011 she curated the compelling photography exhibition "Eye On Afghanistan". A sought after speaker and MC, Virginia regularly addresses corporate and government forums. She is a board member of UN Women Australia, and Patron of Save The Children ACT. In 2010 Virginia received an honourary apointment as Adjunct Professor in the ANZSOG Institute for Governance at the University of Canberra Active in the Arts, Virginia also sits on the Board of the Canberra International Film Festival and is Ambassador of the ACT Chief Minister's Reading Challenge, in addition to an extensive portfolio of community and charity engagements. |
